Unleash Your Ride, Responsibly:

The SLRA Grader Program

Since 2018, the Silver Lake Recreation Association (SLRA) has been committed to enhancing safety and enjoyment for ORV enthusiasts on the dunes. Our Grader Program provides a dedicated, groomed area – a "drag strip" of sorts – where you can test and tune your vehicle's performance. Think of it like groomed trails for snowmobiles, allowing riders to safely experience the capabilities of their machines and maintain control.

This groomed area has become an iconic destination on the dunes, drawing crowds to witness the thrilling action. We're incredibly proud of the Grader Program and its positive impact on the Silver Lake ORV community.

A Huge Thank You:

The SLRA extends its sincere gratitude to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)

for their continued support and the necessary permits that make this vital program possible. Their partnership is essential to providing this valuable service to the dune community.

Safety First:

While the groomed area offers a controlled environment, safety remains our top priority. The Silver Lake State Park scramble area, including the graded section, is an "at your own risk" environment. Before hitting the dunes, we urge all ORV operators to:

We want everyone to experience the thrill of the dunes, but it's crucial to do so safely. By working together and prioritizing safety, we can ensure the Grader Program continues to benefit the ORV community for years to come.

"Poo Patrol" on the Dunes: Keeping it Clean with the SLRA Grader!

Ever wonder how those vault toilets out on the Silver Lake dunes stay clean and functional?  Well, it's not magic! It's the SLRA's trusty Grader tractor and a whole lot of dedication!  We call it "Poo Patrol," and it's a vital part of keeping our dunes enjoyable for everyone.

Our Grader, usually busy grooming the ORV area, moonlights as a high-powered "poo-hauling" machine.  The DNR relies on us to create a smooth path so they can pump out those vault toilets, ensuring a (relatively) fresh and sanitary experience for all dune users. It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it!

Important Flush-iquette & Pack It Out:

Speaking of keeping things clean, let's talk about how YOU can help keep our vault toilets in tip-top shape.  Remember, these facilities are designed for human waste and toilet paper ONLY.  That means:

Why?  Because these items create major headaches when it comes time to pump the tanks.  They clog the hoses, jam the pumps, and basically turn "Poo Patrol" into a real "you-know-what" show.  And remember, Silver Lake State Park is a pack it in, pack it out park.  There are no trash receptacles on the dunes themselves.  So, please plan ahead and bring a bag with you to carry out any trash you generate.

So, be a dune hero!  Dispose of all trash responsibly by packing it out with you. It's a small effort that makes a HUGE difference in keeping our dunes clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Thanks for helping us keep the dunes smelling like... well, nothin'!  We appreciate your cooperation in keeping the vault toilets clean and functional.  Now get out there and enjoy the dunes responsibly!

More Than Just Grader, SLRA's Commitment to Community:

We are passionate about more than just keeping the dunes groomed and safe. We're also deeply committed to giving back to our community and supporting those who have served.

One of the ways we do this is by assisting The Heroes Operation with their incredible "Heroes on the Dunes" event.  We're honored to play a small part in this inspiring initiative by hauling their equipment trailer on and off the dunes.  This logistical support helps ensure the event runs smoothly and allows these deserving heroes to focus on what matters most: camaraderie, healing, and enjoying the beauty of Silver Lake.

"Heroes on the Dunes" is a powerful event that honors the men and women who have served – and continue to serve – our country as veterans and first responders.  It's a chance for them to connect with others who understand their experiences, share stories, and find support.  The event provides a unique and memorable experience on the dunes, offering a respite from the challenges they face.

We at the SLRA believe strongly in the mission of The Heroes Operation and are proud to support their efforts.  We encourage you to learn more about this remarkable organization and how you can get involved. Visit The Heroes Operation website at [Insert Website Address Here] to discover their story, upcoming events, and ways to contribute.  Let's join together in honoring and supporting our heroes!
